Kick off your day early by waking up with excitement, compiling a fresh playlist for the road, and packing your essentials. Head over to Zaya hostel to meet your guide, driver, and soon-to-be friends. Embark on a 5-hour scenic drive towards the serene Amarbayasgalant Monastery. Legend has it that the monastery's location was chosen after encountering two playful boys, Amur and Bayasgulantu, on the steppe, inspiring its name which translates to "monastery of tranquil felicity." Marvel at one of Mongolia's largest and oldest monasteries, a testament to resilience through 300 years. Continue your exploration to the majestic Selenge river, taking a moment to absorb the stunning views and breathe in the purity of nature. Tonight, immerse yourself in Mongolian culture with a local herder family, enjoying local cuisine under the mesmerizing Mongolian night sky.
Welcome to the breathtaking Lake Khuvsgul, your home for the next two days filled with unforgettable experiences. Start by walking along the lake's shores, letting the warm breeze caress you, and marvel at the crystal-clear waters revealing pebbly treasures beneath. Visit a welcoming reindeer herding family to learn about their unique traditions, over reindeer milk tea and yak curd snacks. For those seeking adventure, riding a reindeer is a must-try experience (though not included in the trip). The next day offers more exploration, trek through valleys and soak in the majestic landscape and serene lake views. As night falls, witness the moon casting a white shadow over the hauntingly beautiful Lake Khuvsgul from your ger door.
Your journey continues to the Uran Togoo Volcano, a natural monument named "Artistic" for its naturally perfect crater formation that echoes the artistry of nature itself. Established in 1995 and spanning 5,800 hectares, Uran Togoo is a jewel of North Mongolia, offering untouched wilderness. Drive up the spiraled road to the rim, or hike the trails around the crater and into its heart. The fertile soil supports a rich tapestry of steppe and forest-steppe flora, with larch, aspen, and birch trees adorning the mountain's shadowy sides. The area is also a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, including deer, argali sheep, and marmots, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
